When a Check is Returned....
|
There are certain
procedures that my office require before we will accept a hot check for prosecution.
Your cooperation is very important.
- The check must be presented to the
bank for payment, even if you know that it will not be honored, and the check must be
stamped by the bank either "NSF" or
"Account Closed."
- It will be
necessary for you to provide specific identification of the check writer,
such as date of birth, driver's license/ID card number and issuing state,
and/or SSN for military.
NOTE: Without this information, we cannot issue a warrant for the
arrest of the hot check writer.
- We do not accept checks over
6 months old.
