Courts & Transportation: The presence of the Sheriff has long been required in the courts to provide a safe and secure atmosphere for the dispensing of justice. Not much has changed over the years in the way these duties are performed, except the volume of prisoners, the number of courts, institutions, and facilities, and the modes of travel.

The Sheriff is charged with the security of the State District Courts, and County Courts as well as the Master’s Court (for the Attorney General) and Court for Child Protective Services that operate in Bell County. In addition to the deputies the Sheriff provides for Court room security the Courts section also provides security for the Courts building and for the people attending court.

Transportation Deputies are dispatched to various locations throughout the state to bring inmates that have been arrested in other jurisdictions to Bell County the stand for charges against them. Transportation deputies have also had to fly to other states to take charge of and return a violator to Bell County to stand for the charges against them.

Inmates are transported to court, to medical appointments, to and from other jurisdictions in Texas and again that responsibility has fallen to the Sheriff to assure the safe and effective transportation of the inmates in his care, custody, and control. These duties have been delegated to the Jail Division of the Bell County Sheriff’s Office.
