Prescription Drug Discount Card

wpeD4.tmp.gif (1758 bytes)

Bell County now offers a prescription discount card to help consumers cope with the high price of prescription drugs.  The county signed a contract to make free prescription drug discount cards available under a program sponsored by the National Association of Counties (NACo) that offers average savings of 20 percent off the retail price of commonly prescribed drugs. The program is administered by Caremark, which negotiates the discounts directly with participating pharmacies.

The NACo prescription discount card offers significant savings for the uninsured and underinsured residents of Bell County.  All county residents, regardless of age, income, or existing health coverage, may use the cards, which are available in Bell County Offices.  An estimated 99 percent of Bell County pharmacies accept the NACo card, and a national network of more than 57,000 participating retail pharmacies honor the card.

There are no enrollment/membership fees, no forms to fill out, no age or income requirements, no restrictions or limits on frequency of use, and no medical condition restrictions.  The entire family is covered with just one card and virtually all commonly  prescribed medicine is covered.  This also includes prescription medications for pets.

There is no cost to Bell County, Bell County taxpayers, or consumers to participate.   Neither NACo nor the participating counties receive any revenue from the program.

On occasion, pharmacies price a particular medication lower than the discount rate available with the NACo card.  If that occurs, consumers receive the lower price.  Either way, consumers always receive the best price available.
