Assessor/Collector Duties

The Texas Constitution, Article 7, Section 14
- "There shall be elected by the qualified voters of each county, an
Assessor and Collector of Taxes, who shall hold office for four years...."
Sharon A. Long is the Bell County Tax Assessor. The Tax
Assessor-Collector
is elected countywide by voters for a four year term and has specific
duties outlined in the Texas Constitution and by statutes passed through
Legislative action:

The statutory
responsibilities of the Tax Assessor-Collector include the assessment of
property and collection of ad valorem taxes for the county, as well as
contracting with other entities to collect their jurisdictions' taxes.
In Bell County, these duties are contracted to the
Tax Appraisal District.
The office is also responsible for registration and titling of all
vehicles in the county, collection of the state tax on all automobiles
sold, maintaining and keeping the voter roll, and issuance of beer and
liquor renewal permits. The Tax Assessor-Collector's main office is
located at 411 E. Central in Belton with satellite offices in Temple,
Killeen, and Fort Hood. Mailing address is P.O. Box 669, Belton,

About the Tax Assessor/Collector

Sharon Long was elected Bell County Tax
Assessor-Collector i n
2000 and took office January 1, 2001. Mrs. Long had 25 years
experience in county government prior to being elected.
Mrs. Long currently serves as a Director on the Board for the
Tax Assessor-Collector Association of Texas. She also serves on the
Texas Department of Transportation Liaison Committee and
Elections Committee for TACA.
Mrs. Long is a Bell County native and married with two adult children. |
